Concours d’Lemons NorthWorst 2021 – Winners and Photos
The inaugural Concours d’Lemons NorthWorst took place on June 12, 2021, at Griot’s Garage Headquarters in Tacoma, WA to the delight of hooptie fans all over the NorthWest. RattletTraps and RustBuckets gleamed in the rare northwest sunshine as a large crowd of bewildered spectators enjoyed stunning weather, great stories from the car’s owners and laughs and smiles for everyone. The Lemons Rally, a rally for those not content with a static display of their Crap Can, sputtered and smoked their way into the show for a short stint before setting off on a wild goose chase beyond cellular service range in the wilds of eastern Washington.
Capricious celebrity judges accepted bribes before handing out dollar store sourced trophies in categories like “Rust Belt American Junk”, “Needlessly Complex Italian”, and the coveted top prize “Worst of Show”. The spectators laughed along with self-proclaimed Concours d’Lemons Head Gasket, Alan Galbraith during the awards ceremony. “We knew there are some terrible cars in the NorthWest, but we had no idea they would be this bad,” wondered Galbraith. “Fortunately, Griot’s Garage has car care products that can help even these wrecks,” Galbraith mused while presenting homemade plaques to class winners and a Gritot’s Garage car care product assortment to Steve Walker of Shoreline, WA and his “Worst of Show” winning 1948 Diamond T Boat Tail Speedster. “It used to be a chevy van before I started modifying it so people would stop asking me to help them move,” proudly stated Walker who then mused, “perhaps I got carried away.”
The Concours d’Lemons celebrates the oddball, mundane and truly awful of the automotive world at five major events in the United States and one in Australia. The Lemons Rally is a series of hastily planned and loosely organized rallies where participants drive cars ill-suited for the task to heck and back looking for humorous checkpoints.
